Frequently asked questions

How many bricks are in a square foot / square meter?
With a standard 3/8 in (10 mm) mortar joint, a US modular brick covers about 6.8 bricks per square foot, and a UK standard brick about 60 per square meter. The exact figure depends on brick size and joint thickness — this calculator computes it from the dimensions you enter.
How much waste should I add for bricks?
5% is the usual allowance for straight walls; use 10% for walls with many cuts, corners or openings. Broken and cut bricks are unavoidable on a real site.
How much mortar do I need per square meter of wall?
A single-leaf wall in standard brick with 10 mm joints takes roughly 0.02–0.03 m³ of mortar per square meter. The calculator derives the exact volume geometrically from your brick size and joint thickness.
Do I subtract windows and doors?
Yes — add up the area of all openings and enter it in the openings field. The calculator subtracts it from the wall area before counting bricks, which is how professional estimates are done.
How much adhesive do AAC blocks need?
Thin-bed adhesive at a 2 mm joint takes about one 25 kg bag per m³ of masonry — roughly 7 kg/m² for a 12 in wall. The calculator derives it geometrically from your block size and joint, with 10% working loss.
