Frequently asked questions

How many drywall sheets do I need?
Divide the net wall area (minus openings) by the sheet area and add 10% for cuts — a 4×8 sheet covers 32 sq ft. The calculator does this and rounds up to whole sheets.
How many screws per sheet of drywall?
About 32 screws per 4×8 sheet with studs at 16 in on center (roughly 1 screw per square foot). At 24 in spacing it drops to about 24 per sheet.
How much joint compound and tape per sheet?
Plan on roughly 0.05 lb of ready-mix compound per square foot (a 4.5-gal bucket does about 450–500 sq ft) and about 1.2 ft of tape per square foot of drywall.
How much profile do I need for a drywall ceiling?
For a single-level ceiling: CD channels every 400 mm (16 in), hangers every 1000 mm along each channel, UD track around the perimeter, and screws every 150 mm. The calculator counts channels, hangers, anchors and sheets from your room size.
